As Australia’s international borders remain closed, the Federal Government has announced that it will fast-track visa applications for more occupations on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) to support the country’s post-coronavirus economic recovery. As part of this process, employer-sponsored visa applications with an occupation on the PMSOL will be given priority during processing. While all other skilled occupation lists will remain active, applicants with occupations on the PMSOL list will have their visas fast-tracked.
Proposed changes to this stream of visa include the Australian sponsor lodging his/her application in the first instance. Additionally, at the moment a Partner visa is a two-stage process – you first get a provisional visa for two years after which you are eligible to get a permanent visa grant. It is also proposed that applicants and sponsors will be required to demonstrate their English language competency at the time of applying for the permanent visa.
In April 2019, the Government introduced the Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa.
Parents on this new temporary visa can stay in Australia for up to three or five years per visa for a cumulative maximum of 10 years.
It gives the applicants the possibility of being here for up to ten years with their children or grandchildren.
These new options are in addition to the other Parent visa options being the Contributory Parent and the non-Contributory visa streams. For details of the best option for your situation, arrange a consultation today.
